At Esther Schipper, Tauba Auerbach presents Easy Assembly, an exhibition that transforms the fragile, unstable language of foam into a meditation on systems, connection and constant reorganisation.
The exhibition brings together thirteen large scale pointillist paintings based on microscopic images of soap foam. Suspended slightly away from the wall and varying dramatically in scale, the works appear to hover between scientific observation and abstraction. Millions of meticulously hand painted dots accumulate across sprayed, multicoloured surfaces, producing shimmering compositions that feel simultaneously cellular, cosmic and alive.

Foam becomes both subject and metaphor throughout the exhibition. Existing at the unstable threshold between liquid and air, foam resists rigid structure or fixed geometry. Instead, it operates through relationships, tensions and temporary arrangements. Each bubble depends on its surrounding neighbours, continuously adapting as forms collapse and reorganise themselves. In Auerbach’s paintings, this restless behaviour is translated into intricate visual systems that explore self organisation, interdependence and the ways individual elements refract through one another.
Rather than presenting order as something fixed or imposed, Easy Assembly proposes a more fluid understanding of structure, one that emerges organically through movement, proximity and interaction. The works evoke networks, biological tissues, urban formations and digital architectures, while remaining deeply material and tactile.

Through different approaches to colour, lighting and image processing, Auerbach pushes the Foam series into new territory, creating paintings that oscillate between microscopic precision and atmospheric immersion. The result is an exhibition that feels both analytical and deeply sensory, a study of instability that reveals unexpected forms of harmony.
In Easy Assembly, foam becomes more than a physical phenomenon. It becomes a model for thinking about contemporary life itself, unstable, interconnected and perpetually in flux.
